Meet the SLP

Marissa Tijerina, M.S., CCC-SLP
IAOM trained in Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy

Hi, I’m Marissa, a Christian, wife, mom of 3, and founder/owner of Bluebonnet Therapy.

With almost a decade of experience as a Speech Language Pathologist (SLP), I founded this private practice to continue supporting the needs of my community while balancing the responsibilities of my growing family. Observing the challenges posed by lengthy waitlists in clinics and the delays in timely interventions within the educational system, I recognized the need for a more convenient approach to pediatric speech therapy.

At Bluebonnet Therapy, we strive to address these challenges by offering accessible services for parents seeking timely and effective speech therapy for their children. We achieve this through various means, including traveling to nearby daycares/private schools, offering summer-intensive options, and providing different levels of intervention.

My mission as an SLP is to help individuals and families improve their quality of life through optimal orofacial functioning and to support the establishment and development of meaningful relationships. I especially enjoy working with children who have complex speech and communication, including Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy or AAC (Alternative and Augmentative Communication).

I have been helping families to improve their child's oral motor functioning, feeding, speech, and/or functional communication since 2013. My primary experience has been in multi-disciplinary clinics, and most recently, in the educational setting. I also gained valuable experience from adults in the inpatient rehabilitation and acute care settings.

I am child- and family-centered in my approach. In our sessions, your child will enjoy refining his skills, and you will notice improved functioning as a result. We will continually and mutually decide if your child is continuing to benefit from the current therapy schedule and techniques. I believe that parent involvement is integral to a child’s success. Together, we can help your child communicate (or eat) with confidence and thrive.

When I'm not wearing my SLP hat, you can find me spending time with my husband and/or our twin girls at the library, zoo, or museums! I enjoy learning, organizing, being busy, and helping others. I previously volunteered with the San Antonio Speech, Hearing and Language Association (SASHLA) and served as CEU Coordinator, Vice President, and President. Growing Bluebonnet Therapy and working toward becoming a Certified Orofacial Myologist (COM®) are my current projects. I hope to meet you soon!
